Our Aim

The Friends of Coy Pond aim is to cultivate a thriving and beautiful green space for the community by nurturing the natural environment with care and dedication. As volunteer gardeners, we are committed to preserving the tranquility of the Coy Pond area rockery, and the grounds surrounding the pond, fostering biodiversity, and creating a welcoming oasis where nature and neighbours flourish together. Through our collective efforts, we strive to inspire a connection with nature, promote sustainable gardening practices, and ensure that the area remains a vibrant, peaceful haven for all to enjoy promoting health and well-being within the community.

About Us

We are a friendly and sociable group, meeting between 10.00 & 12.00 on Tuesdays in the
season. Mostly gardening around the pond and rockery, we are always ready to stop and
talk to locals and visitors alike. We break for elevenses and a good chat amongst ourselves.
Gardening experience varies from a lifetime, RHS trained, to knowing next to nothing. We
work together, and there is always something to learn for everybody. Gardening is not
compulsory: essential maintenance includes sweeping, litter picking and railing painting.
New volunteers will always be made welcome.

The original nucleus of half a dozen or so gardeners came to Coy Pond in 2017, with
experience of another council owned rock garden. Then, around 80% of Coy Pond rockery
was entirely concealed by low growing shrubs. Within a year or so, the shrubs had all been
cleared, and rockery plants, and surplus from our own gardens was being installed as the
rockery re-discovered. Much additional planting since, the plants again from the volunteers.
The numbers of volunteers has grown, and as at 2024, more than a couple of dozen.
